Pak, US agree to work together to carry forward relationship

NEW YORK (92 News) – Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi met US Vice President Mike Pence on Wednesday on the sidelines of the 72nd UN General Assembly session in New York. During the meeting, the two leaders held discussions in a cordial atmosphere and discussed issues relating to bilateral relationship as well as peace and stability in Afghanistan and the region. Prime Minister shared Pakistan’s concerns and views with regard to the US strategy for South Asia. Both sides agreed to work together to carry forward the relationship which has been a historic partnership for the last seven decades. The US Vice President said: “We value our relationship with Pakistan, a long-term partnership for security in the region. And we look forward to exploring ways that we can work even more closely with Pakistan and with your government to advance security throughout the region.” It was agreed that the two countries would stay engaged with a constructive approach to achieve shared objectives of peace, stability and economic prosperity in the region. On the other hand, talking to media in New York, Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua said that the meeting that both sides agreed to continue dialogue process for bilateral engagement and for this purpose a US delegation will visit Pakistan next month. Earlier, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the UNGA Session in New York. The two leaders had in-depth exchange of views about the strengthening of bilateral relations. They also reviewed regional peace and security situation. On the other hand, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had also assured to continue the assistance provided to Sri Lanka when he met with President Maithripala Sirisena on the sidelines of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Prime Minister Abbasi further said that Pakistan will commit to take the economic and trade relationship between the two countries to a stronger level through new a new approach.
