Pakistan approached IMF due to economic instability: FM Qureshi

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Pakistan had approached the International Monetary Fund (IMF) due to economic instability. Speaking on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday, he said that the previous government had departed without announcing the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award. “We will not distribute funds whimsically like the previous government,” he said. The minister questioned that why the PPP not observing the destruction of Sindh. “AIDS has spread in entire Sindh and the conditions of Tharparkar are not hidden from anyone,” he said. Shah Mahmood Qureshi said those taunting the government had gone to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) several times. About the appointment of SBP Governor Dr Reza Baqar, he said that Raza Baqar is the son of Pakistan. “He has come to Pakistan on low wages. He has been appointed as he fulfilled the eligibility criteria,” he said. The minister said that no presidential system was being enforced in the country. “The country is heading to One Unit. There is neither threat to China Pakistan Economic Corridor nor nuclear assets,” he said.
FM Qureshi rules out presidential system in Pakistan
Earlier, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has ruled out the enforcement of the presidential system in the country. Addressing a press conference on Friday, he said that no one had two-thirds majority for amending the constitution. Questioning the change of the Public Accounts Commission (PAC) chairman, the foreign minister said that Raja Zafarul Haq was also surprised at the decision. “The PPP says that they have not been consulted while nominating Rana Tanveer Hussain,” he said.

Minister for Foreign Affairs (FM) Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Friday that Pakistan played a role for peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan. Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that the government is pursuing economic diplomacy for socio-economic development of the country. FM Qureshi said various steps have been taken to create a pro-investment environment, and it is time for entrepreneurs to take advantage of lucrative business opportunities in the country.
