Pakistan Army will take all possible steps to protect nation: DG ISPR

RAWALPINDI (92 News) – The third wave of Corona is proving to be more deadly than the first two waves as DG ISPR Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar has said that the armed forces of Pakistan are ready to assist the nation.

While addressing an important press conference on the coronavirus situation in Pakistan, the DG ISPR said that people's confidence in Pak Army is its asset. “Pakistan Army will do everything in its power to protect people's lives,” he assured.

He confirmed the deployment of Pakistan Army troops in 16 cities of the country to ensure compliance with the Corona SOPs. He also said that the army has been deployed in cities where the rate of coronavirus positivity has exceeded 16 per cent.

“Army was deployed in COVID-19 hit cities on request of Interior Ministry under Article 245 of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan. “The cities included Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Multan, Hyderabad and others, where the positivity rate has reached “dangerous” levels,” he said.

Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar said that the positivity ratio had shot up to over 5 per cent in 91 cities of Pakistan, adding that the healthcare infrastructure was under immense pressure as critical care patients were increasing daily.

The DG ISPR revealed that that the third wave of Coronavirus in the country has affected the entire region, adding that currently, 75 per cent of oxygen production is allocated to the health sector and the condition of 4,300 patients in the country is critical.

"Pakistan Army had brought about "enhanced deployment" of its troops in Islamabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Gujrat, Karachi, Hyderabad, Quetta and Muzaffarabad," he said.

Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar mentioned that Pakistan Army had been deployed in the country to help thwart the coronavirus situation, adding that the decision was taken with all stakeholders on board.

He urged masses to follow coronavirus safety precautions to ensure their lives and the lives of others remained safe during the pandemic.
