DHAKA (Web Desk) Pakistan and Bangladesh have resumed high-level diplomatic talks after a 15-year hiatus, as Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) between the two nations were held today in Dhaka.
The meeting was led by Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch and her Bangladeshi counterpart, Md Jashim Uddin, at the State Guest House Padma. Discussions focused on regional developments, trade, tourism, cultural exchange, and mutual cooperation, including the Rohingya refugee issue.
Amna Baloch, who arrived in Dhaka on a two-day visit, is also expected to meet Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain and engage with think tanks and the Pakistani diaspora.
The FOC marks a significant step in improving relations, which have seen a positive shift since the fall of Bangladesh’s previous government in August 2024. Recent meetings between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief Adviser Yunus, along with relaxed visa policies and direct shipping links, have further fostered goodwill.
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is scheduled to visit Dhaka later this month—the first such visit by a Pakistani foreign minister since 2012.
