Pakistan, China agree to further strengthen bilateral strategic partnership
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to further strengthen partnership with China, based on strategic cooperation between the two countries.
The commitment was expressed by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi during his one-on-one meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, in Islamabad on Saturday (today).
Addressing a joint news conference along with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Islamabad on Saturday, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pak-China friendship has political, institutional and popular support in both countries.
He said Pakistan is eager to collaborate with China on CPEC which is fastest growing project of One Belt One Road initiative. He also said his Chinese counterpart has extended an invitation for official visit to Prime Minister Imran Khan in November, to participate in international import-export expo as Chinese guest.
"We made substantive progress on CPEC and reassured the visiting the Chinese foreign minister that CPEC has immense importance for Pakistan and it is priority of the government.
He said priorities of our government were discussed in the meeting including eradication of poverty job creation and rooting out corruption. He said I assured that security of Chinese Officials is our priority.
The foreign minister said his Chinese counterpart emphasized that his country fully supports Pakistan's efforts in fight against terrorism and acknowledges Pakistan's sacrifices. He said Wang Yi also urged international community to appreciate Pakistan's role in countering terrorism which is a global problem.
On the other hand, in his remarks on the occasion, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi described his meeting with Shah Mehmood Qureshi very positive. He said his country desires to further strengthen strategic partnership with Pakistan.
Wang Yi said we will continue cooperation with Pakistan in every field. He said both countries agreed to advance peace in Afghanistan.
A day earlier, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reached Islamabad on his three-day official visit. This will be the first high-level visit by any Chinese official to Pakistan after the country elected a new government led by Imran Khan.
Besides meeting his Pakistani counterpart, Wang is likely to meet Prime Minister Imran Khan and President-elect Arif Alvi and discuss the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and bilateral issues. He will also meet the main leaders of Pakistani side and exchange views on bilateral relations, regional as well as international issues of mutual interest.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said before arrival of Pakistan, “China and Pakistan are all-weather, strategic and cooperative partners. Our bilateral ties have been developing at sound momentum. “We have seen frequent high-level exchanges and political cooperation is also moving forward and there are rich outcomes from the CPEC.”
