Pakistan, China, Russia and Iran emphasize national govt in Afghanistan

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan (92 News) – Pakistan, China, Russia and Iran have stressed the need for formation of a national government in Afghanistan.

During a meeting, the foreign ministers also expressed concern over influx of refugees in the region due to the complex problems in Afghanistan.

The participants reiterated their resolve for establishment of peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the 20 SCO Summit.

"Pakistan is committed to furthering cooperation with Russia in trade, investment, energy, defence and people-to-people exchanges as well as collaboration at multilateral and regional fora," said Qureshi.

He said that on Afghanistan, he shared the urgent need for greater humanitarian assistance in order to address food and medicine shortage in the country and need for international community to remain engaged in Afghanistan.

"Bilaterally, we look forward to the Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade/Investment in Russia in November. I shared our governments' resolve for early realization of Pakistan Stream Gas Pipeline project. I appreciate Russia’s commitment to expand number of scholarships for Pakistani students," he added.
