Pakistan controlled coronavirus by 80 percent through smart lockdown

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The international media is acknowledging the Pakistani strategy to control coronavirus. According to The Wall Street Journal, Pakistan has controlled coronavirus by 80 percent through the smart lockdown, while the neighbouring countries – India and China – are still badly affected by the pandemic. The WSJ says the number of cases are increasing rapidly in Pakistan until recently, recording a dramatic decline in coronavirus cases and deaths, which are both down more than 80 per cent from their peaks. It states that major hospitals in Pakistan have reported availability of beds in coronavirus wards that were previously overflowing with infected patients. The number of patients on ventilators has halved over the past month compared to Pakistan's neighbouring countries India and Iran that are reporting increasingly high number of daily infections. Even more surprising, the paper added, was how the progress in Pakistan — where coronavirus was spreading out of control some two months ago — came after Prime Minister Imran Khan resisted the World Health Organization's (WHO) advice, declaring in May that lockdowns are too costly for the poor and reopening the economy.
