Pakistan feels like home, says Turkish President Erdogan
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday said that while in Pakistan, he feels like he is at home.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is addressing a joint session of Parliament in Islamabad — for a record fourth time.
At the start of his speech to a joint session of the parliament, the Turkish president said that he was thankful and happy to have had the opportunity to address the joint session of the parliament in Pakistan. “I am thankful for this opportunity. I am thankful to each of you individually for allowing me to address this joint session of Parliament,” he added.
In his address, Erdogan thanked the Pakistani people and leadership over the warm welcome he was accorded upon arrival. “It is my pleasure to speak to you. I am thankful to you for giving me the opportunity to address this house. While in Pakistan, I feel like I am at home,” he maintained.
Members of the armed forces, government leaders, federal ministers and opposition members — including Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, Special Assistant on Information Firdous Ashiq Awan; PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PPP leaders Rehman Malik, Sherry Rehman and Raja Pervez Ashraf; PML-N’s Khawaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal; and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider — are in attendance.
Prime Minister Imran Khan, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser and Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani received the Turkish president upon arrival at the Parliament.
Posters welcoming the Turkish president were put up in the capital ahead of his arrival with strict security in place.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was accorded Guard of Honour at the Prime Minister’s House.
President Erdogan accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising cabinet members and senior government officials besides heads and CEOs of leading Turkish corporations.
Pakistan and Turkey have agreed to extend mutual support on issues of each other’s core national interest.
This understanding was reached at meeting between President Dr Arif Alvi and his Turkish Counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Both the leaders underscored the importance of fully realizing the immense potential of relationship between the two countries.
During the meeting, they also underlined in transforming this relations into a strong and dynamic trade and economic partnership.
On the occasion, President Alvi expressed gratification over the level of enhanced and multifaceted engagement between the two countries. He said that the 6th Session of High Level Strategic Cooperation Council will further strengthen and broaden the fraternal relations between Pakistan and Turkey.
Earlier, a warm welcome was accorded to the Turkish President and First Lady of Turkey Emine Erdogan over their arrival at the presidency. President Arif Alvi later hosted banquet in honour of the distinguished guests.
It is noteworthy to mention here that President Alvi summoned a joint session of the Parliament on Friday (tomorrow) at 11:00am which will be addressed by President Erdogan.
Kashmir issue is as close to us as it is to Pakistanis
