Pakistan reports highest coronavirus cases in three months

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - Corona's third wave has turned horrific as Pakistan on Thursday reported 3,495 fresh coronavirus cases in a new one-day record over the past three months.

According to the latest statistics of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the country recorded 3,495 new cases in the last 24 hours -- the highest single-day tally since Jan 1-- pushing the total count of coronavirus infections to 615,810.

The NCOC stated that the coronavirus has claimed 61 more lives in Pakistan during the past 24 hours, taking the overall death toll to 13,717.

The total count of active cases is 24,592. The positivity ratio was recorded at 7.87 per cent during the past one day.

In the past 24 hours, as many as 1,634 patients have recovered from the virus in a day and 2,062 patients are still in critical condition including 84 new cases.

A total of 44,377 tests were conducted across the country during this period. Overall 577,501 people have recovered from the deadly disease so far while 9,648,242 samples have been tested thus far.

Sindh remains the worst-hit province by the pandemic in terms of cases followed by Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad.

Till now 262,207 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 191,186 in Punjab 77,443 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 49,476 in Islamabad, 19,269 in Balochistan, 11,264 in Azad Kashmir and 4,965 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Furthermore 5,896 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab 4,469 in Sindh, 2,188 in KP, 531 in Islamabad, 328 in Azad Kashmir, 202 in Balochistan, and 103 in GB.
