Pakistan, new US govt have conformity of views about Afghanistan: FM

LAHORE (92 News) - Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan and newly-elected US government have conformity of views about Afghanistan and other priorities.

While talking to the 92 News program of "Subh Savaray Pakistan", FM Qureshi said that Pakistan's strategy in Afghanistan and the thinking of the new US government are consistent.

He also mentioned that the new US administration also wants to move forward the Afghan peace process. "There is a possibility of relief from the new US administration on human rights violations in Indian Occupied Jammu Kashmir.

On the other hand, in a statement, the minister maintained that Pakistan desires to engage with the new US administration for enhancement of bilateral relations. He said a new administration is assuming responsibilities in the US today.

He said US President-elect Joe Biden has a clear perspective about the South Asian region. He said the two sides have conformity of views about Afghanistan and other priorities such as the Covid-19 pandemic and the strategy to deal with the climate change issue.

FM Qureshi said the United States had a bipartisan opinion about India, but it is welcoming that the new US administration has a clear stance about protection of human rights.

He said the world is pointing out gross human rights violations in the Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed hope the new US administration will play a role in getting stopped the Indian oppression against the eight million unarmed Kashmiris.
