Pakistan, Russia agrees to joint efforts for restoring peace in region

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Pakistan and Russia have agreed to launch joint efforts aimed at restoring peace in the region that has witnessed rising tensions between the US and Iran. They were agreed during a telephonic conversation between Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mehmood Qureshi and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov. Both the leaders discussed issues pertaining to increasing tensions in the Middle East and the overall situation in the region. FM Qureshi informed his Russian counterpart that an increase in tensions among the states could dent a severe blow to peace and stability in the region. Shah Mahmood Qureshi said both the sides have to show restraint in order to overcome the current escalated situation. While reiterating Pakistan’s principled stance, the foreign minister clarified that Pakistan will neither be a party to any new conflict in the region, nor will its land be used against any regional or neighbouring country. The two foreign ministers also agreed to make joint efforts for regional peace. A day earlier, FM Qureshi has said that Pakistan always played role of bridge among Muslim Ummah countries. Speaking in a meeting of National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, FM Qureshi said he is in contact with all key countries to de-escalate situation in the Middle East. He also said that Pakistan is committed to play a positive role in reducing tensions between the US and Iran.
PM to visit Malysia in next month
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said in next month Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan will visit Malaysia while Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be visiting Pakistan. Commenting about the worse situation in India, the minister said Modi government has imposed discriminatory amendments which have curtailed rights of minorities. He said that the protest has been spread all over the country against Modi-led Indian government. “The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has also reacted on the discriminatory treatment with Muslims in India.
