Pakistan still needs to do a lot more against all terrorist groups: US
March 21, 2018
WASHINGTON (92 News) – US State Department Spokeswoman Heather Nauert on Wednesday said that Pakistan has shown progress by taking action against terrorist groups but still a lot more was needed to be done. Addressing a news briefing in Washington on Wednesday, she said that last year, the US administration had frozen Pakistan’s military assistance and linked its release with an action against all terrorist groups including Haqqani Network. Heather Nauert said that the implementation on US President Donald Trump’s new strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia came under discussion during a meeting between Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and US Vice President Mike Pence. They also discussed the steps being taken against terrorism during the meeting, she added. The spokeswoman said that the US Vice President had emphasized that Pakistan will have to do more to take action against all terrorist groups. The spokesperson said Pakistan can play a critical role in bringing Afghan Taliban to the negotiation table.
