LAHORE (92 News) The Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) Punjab Zone has declared reports about the increase in sugar prices baseless.
The PSMA Punjab Zone spokesperson says that speculations are being made about the increase in sugar prices, adding that the ex-mill price of sugar does not exceed Rs140 per kilogram.
He also says that there is enough surplus sugar stock to meet the country's needs, adding that the government should take action against those spreading rumours about the increase in sugar prices.
On the other hand, Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain has also denied the news of the increase in sugar prices.
He says that the ex-mill price of sugar is below Rs140 per kilogram, adding that the retail price of sugar is Rs130 per kilogram and the wholesale rate of sugar is Rs125 per kilogram.
"Sugar prices are being monitored on the instructions of the prime minister," he stated and emphasised that the media should play a responsible role and avoid spreading false information.
He further said that the government is taking effective steps to control sugar prices and assured the public that sugar prices are under control.
