Pakistan summons Afghan envoy to protest border firing, consulate official's arrest

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - Pakistan Foreign Office on Friday summoned Afghanistan ambassador to Pakistan and lodged a formal protest over firings incidents along the border and the arrest of a Pakistani diplomatic official in Qandahar consulate. As per a statement issued by the Foreign Office: "The Ambassador of Afghanistan was called to the Foreign Office yesterday evening and a demarche was made regarding unprovoked firing by the Afghan Border Police at Angoor Adda gate on Pakistan side which injured six soldiers, and the detention of an official of Pakistan Consulate General at Qandahar by Afghan authorities." The statement added that the official was forcibly taken away and kept in detention. "It was emphasized that in view of close and brotherly relations existing between the two countries, which have significantly enhanced recently, such incidents should not have taken place." Earlier yesterday, Afghanistan summoned the Pakistani envoy over what it alleged was the "unprovoked firing" into Afghanistan territory from the Pakistani side.
