Pakistan ‘unfairly’ blamed for US failures in Afghanistan: PM

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan said that Pakistan ‘unfairly’ blamed for US failures in Afghanistan. In an exclusive interview with Russian international television network ‘RT’, he said that Pakistan suffered great losses when it joined Washington’s War on Terror, and in the end the US still pinned the blame on Pakistan for its own setbacks in Afghanistan. Imran Khan also revealed that Pakistan took a serious hit after joining the US-led global campaign against terrorism. “Before that, Islamabad had been training Mujahedeen fighters, who were funded by the American CIA to wage war against the Soviet Union in Afghanistan in the 1980s. But as it was the US’ turn to invade Afghanistan, these groups turned against us,” the prime minister told RT. “We lost 70,000 people. We lost over $100 billion [from] the economy. And in the end, we were blamed for the Americans not succeeding in Afghanistan. I felt it was very unfair to Pakistan,” PM Imran Khan elaborated. A day earlier, PM Imran Khan has announced to hold a big public gathering in Muzaffarabad on Friday (September 13) to express solidarity with the besieged people of Indian Occupied Kashmir.

on the other hand, US President Donald Trump says talks with the Taliban aimed at ending the 18-year war in Afghanistan are “dead”. “As far as I’m concerned, they are dead,” he told White House reporters on Monday.

Over the weekend Mr Trump cancelled secret plans to host a Taliban delegation in the US after the militant group admitted killing a US soldier. The two sides had appeared close to a deal and the Taliban said the US would “lose the most” for cancelling talks. The US president has made withdrawing US troops from Afghanistan a key foreign policy aim, but asked about the 14,000 US troops still there he said: “We’d like to get out but we’ll get out at the right time.”
