Pakistani govt in liaison with COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers, told NCOC

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The federal government has informed the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) that it is liaising with leading manufacturers of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines including those from China.

During a daily briefing on the coronavirus situation, health officials told the NCOC that they are regularly reviewing developments, including data from phase 3 trials of experimental vaccines. These steps will lead to a final decision about early availability of the vaccine for Pakistan, they added.

Coronavirus vaccines

It may be noted here that Pakistan signed up for the United Nation's COVAX Facility, a global initiative aimed at equitable access to safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines worldwide.

There are also multiple local and China-made vaccine trials being conducting across the country. The human trials of a vaccine being developed by Chinese Company CanSino Biologics Inc started on September 22 and has over 13,000 volunteers across Pakistan.

Pakistan has reported 84 deaths in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 9,557 on Wednesday.

According to the latest statistics of National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 2,142 new infections were reported in past 24 hours as the number of positive cases has surged to 462,814.

Meanwhile, 4,415 patients have recovered from the virus in a day and 2,419 patients are in critical condition including 21 reported within 24 hours. The total count of active cases is 37,905.

A total of 35,621 tests were conducted across the country during this period. Overall 415,352 people have recovered from the deadly disease so far while 6,406,281 samples have been tested thus far.

Sindh remains the worst-hit province by the pandemic in terms of cases followed by Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad. Punjab has overtaken Sindh in most number of casualties.

Till now 206,489 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 133,179 in Punjab 55,811 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 36,483 in Islamabad, 17,980 in Balochistan, 8,040 in Azad Kashmir and 4,832 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Furthermore 3,732 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab 3,379 in Sindh, 1,563 in KP, 394 in Islamabad, 211 in Azad Kashmir, 179 in Balochistan, and 99 in GB.
