Pakistani opener Abid Ali dedicates century to daughter
December 15, 2019
RAWALPINDI (92 News) – Pakistani opener Abid Ali dedicated his Test debut century on Sunday to his daughter, saying that it was hard work which kept him going all these years. He said while talking to the journalists after first Test match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka ended in a draw. “The more I thank Allah, the less it is I kept working hard for the last couple of years and was eagerly awaiting for my big break,” he said. Abid credited to Babar Azam, saying that he gave him confidence when he became nervous. Abid dedicated his debut century to his daughter. “I would like to dedicate this century to my daughter. My wife and my parents prayed a lot for my performance. Inshallah I will try to do even better,” he mentioned. It is pertinent to mention here that ODI and T20 skipper Babar Azam made his third Test century as Pakistan scored 252-2 in reply to Sri Lanka’s first innings total of 308-6. On the historic record, Abid Ali was declared as the “Man of the Match”. Capitan Azhar Ali welcomed Abid Ali for setting a unique record in the history of cricket.
Abid Ali creates history with century on Test, ODI debuts
The Pakistani opener created history on Sunday by becoming the first batsman in the game history to score century on both his ODI and Test debuts as he reached three figures on the final day of the Rawalpindi Test against Sri Lanka. Abid Ali, 32, had earlier scored a century on his 50-over debut against Australia in Dubai earlier this year and replicated the feat in five-day cricket as he guided Pakistan towards a draw in the rain-affected inaugural Test – the first in the country in a decade. The opening batsman reached his ton off 183 balls with 11 hits to the fence. He received good support from captain Azhar Ali (36) and later Babar Azam, who scored a fifty in the post-tea session. Abid has been one of the most consistent batsmen in domestic cricket with more than 100 first-class matches and 7,000 runs under his belt. Pakistan’s struggles in the Test format forced the management to look at experienced heads in the batting department and Abid showed that consistency in first-class cricket leads to success in the Test arena more often than not.
