Pakistan’s coronavirus death toll increases to 159, cases rise to 7,993

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The death toll increased to 159 after 16 more deaths were reported during the last 24 hours. According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the number of total patients soared to 7,993 with 514 new cases across the country within 24 hours Sunday. Punjab tops the patients tally with 3,649 cases followed by Sindh with 2,355. There are 171 patients in Islamabad, 1,137 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 376 in Balochistan, 48 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. In total, 1,868 patients have recovered so far. The number of tests conducted so far is 98,522 with 7,847 done during the last 24 hours.
Partial lockdown
On the other hand, partial lockdown imposed is continuing across the country as educational institutions, shopping malls, markets, restaurants, and other private business remained closed while inter-provincial and inter-city transport was also suspended. Factories, banks and the financial sector were directed to reduce work hours. The government has barred elder people and children from offering Friday prayers at mosques and issued guidelines for making lines with a specific distance. The novel coronavirus – which originated in the central China city of Wuhan towards the end of December 2019 – has spread to all continents excluding Antarctica. The COVID-19 respiratory illness caused by the mysterious contagion has so far killed thousands of people and infected tens of thousands of others across the globe.
