Panama Leaks Case: Maryam Nawaz submits reply in SC

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Maryam Nawaz, daughter of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has on Friday rejected the allegations of London flats and offshore companies in her reply submitted in the Supreme Court. A five-member bench of the Supreme Court led by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa resumed hearing of the Panama Leaks case. During the proceedings, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) counsel Naeem Bukhari said in his arguments that the real owner of the London flats is Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, adding that the flats were bought in the name of Maryam Nawaz in 1993 and 1996. He said that unnamed steel mill was also started in Dubai, adding that Maryam Nawaz is the real owner of the flats but the father made her beneficiary to show the world. The PTI’s counsel said that Maryam Nawaz received Rs 42.3 million loan from Chaudhry Sugar Mill in 2011 to which Justice Azmat Saeed asked Naeem Bukhari if they can prove the trust deed false or provide evidence over transfer of property. Justice Asif Saeed Khosa remarked that the efforts would be made to reach the truth. In her reply submitted in the court, she gave the details of five families living in the Raiwind Estate, saying that five separate families are living in Jati Umrah. Rejecting the allegations of London flats and offshore entities, she said that Hussain Nawaz owns the London flats and according to the trust deed she is not the beneficial owner of the offshore companies. In its remarks, the bench said that it will go by the book in the case and every effort will be made to reach the truth. Following the conclusion of arguments by Naeem Bukhari, the counsel for the prime minister will submit his arguments. The court adjourned the hearing till Monday.
