Panama Leaks Case: SC adjourns hearing till first week of January
December 9, 2016
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court has on Friday adjourned the hearing of the Panama leaks case until the first week of January next year. A five-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali resumed hearing of the Panama leaks case. During the proceedings, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) refused to accept the Supreme Court’s option of forming a commission to probe the Panama leaks case. The Chief Justice said there are two days left before his reference and then there will be winter vacations for the judges. He said, therefore, the bench will be reconstituted to hear the case. Citing the significance of the case, the bench said it is not going to be an easy judgment. Earlier, the counsels of the prime minister and his children supported the idea of the formation of commission on Panama Papers. Salman Butt and Akram Sheikh said it is up to the court to decide as to how the investigation may be carried forward. The counsel of the PTI, Naeem Bukhari, however opposed the creation of the commission saying the bench should decide the case.
