Panamagate case: PM counsel says disqualification requires court declaration

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court has on Friday resumed hearing of the Panamagate case against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family. A five-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa resumed hearing of the case. During the proceedings, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer Makhdoom Ali Khan continued presenting arguments. He said that a declaration from the court is needed to disqualify the prime minister under articles 62 of the constitution. Makhdoom Ali Khan said that the court can disqualify several members under the Article 62 (1 F) in fake degree cases and the issue of ineligibility can be raised at the time of submission of nomination papers. Refereeing to the cases of PTI leader Jahangir Tareen, the PM’s counsel said that the disqualification from the public office under Article 62 and 63 of the constitution the person should be convicted from a court of law. The court adjourned hearing till Monday. The counsel for Prime Minister Makhdoom Ali Khan will continue his arguments in the next hearing.
