Parliament attack case: PTI’s Mazari declared innocent, others granted bail

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday granted bails to six leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in case related to attack on Parliament and PTV during party’s 2014 sit-in by the PTI and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT). ATC judge Shahrukh Arjumund resumed hearing of case related to attack on Parliament and PTV during party’s 2014 sit-in by the PTI and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT). During the proceedings, PTI leaders Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Shafqat Mahmood, Arif Alvi, Asad Umer and Sheerin Mazaari appeared before the court. While presenting arguments, prosecutor Chaudhry Shafqaat said that the PTI was responsible for the killings during violence in 2014 sit-in, adding that PTI leaders brought armed men with them during the sit-in. The prosecutor prayed the court to cancel PTI leaders’ bail and order their arrest. Presenting arguments, the counsel of PTI leaders said that false cases were registered against peaceful protesters, adding that the nominated accused are elected representatives of the National Assembly. The court read out the reserved verdict and granted bail to PTI leaders. The court also declared PTI leader Sheerin Mazaari innocent. Talking to media after the hearing, PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi strongly criticized former prime minister saying that Nawaz Sharif is making the judiciary controversial. He said that the prosecutor leveled baseless allegations against them, adding that the cases were made against them on political basis.
