Parliamentary meeting undecided over extension of military courts
February 16, 2017
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Parliamentary meeting held on Thursday to decide about the extension of military courts went undecided. National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq said that the government and the opposition have not reached a consensus over the issue. The government presented a draft of the Bill suggesting an extension of 3 years in the military courts. However, the word ‘religious terrorism’ was removed from the Bill. Pakistan People’s Party Senator Naveed Qamar objected that the Bill cannot be approved in its present form. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that no reforms have been made in the criminal cases for two years. The next meeting of parliamentary leaders would be held on February 27 while a meeting to prepare the legal draft would be held on February 22.
