PCB appoints Misbahul Haq as head coach
September 4, 2019
LAHORE (92 News) – The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday has appointed former captain Misbahul Haq as the new head coach of the national team. According to the officially announcement by the PCB, Waqar Younis appointed as the cricket team’s bowling coach. Misbah has been appointed for a three-year term and will also serve as Pakistan's chief selector, leading Pakistan cricket with the dual key roles. A five-member panel of the cricket board conducted its interview process for the posts of head and bowling coaches last week after which they sent their recommendations to PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani. Meanwhile, Ehsan Mani approved the names of both the coaches. During the interview process, Misbah and Younis emerged as the top candidates for their posts. Among the candidates for the post of head coach are Misbahul Haq and Dean Jones. For bowling coach, Waqar Younis, Yasir Arafat and Jalaluddin are in the running while Faisal Iqbal and Mohammad Wasim applied for the post of batting coach. Earlier, former Pakistan captain Misbah had resigned from his post in the cricket committee and submitted his application for the key post of head coach. The 45-year-old submitted his application for the post of the vacant head coach position. “You can expect strict competition for the position [of head coach], Misbah said. “I know many highly qualified people have applied for the post of head coach.” Earlier this month, the Pakistan Cricket Board had announced it had decided not to renew contracts of head coach Mickey Arthur, bowling coach Azhar Mahmood, batting coach Grant Flower and trainer Grant Luden. It is pertinent to mention here that Misbah has emerged as the leading candidate for the job even since he was made the camp commandant of the team’s ongoing training camp. He is also expected to land the chief selector’s role, but surprisingly he had waited until the last day to formally apply for the job. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had set August 26 as the deadline for the filing of paperwork for all the vacancies.
