PCB to announce head coach tomorrow
September 3, 2019
LAHORE (92 News) – Who will be the next head coach of the Pakistan cricket team as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will announce the name of the head coach tomorrow (on Wednesday). The board announced that the name of the national cricket team’s new bowling coach will also be announced tomorrow. The announcement of the coaches' names will be followed by a press conference, it said. A five-member panel of the cricket board conducted its interview process for the posts of head and bowling coaches last week, after they sent their recommendations to PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani. On Thursday, the PCB interviewed Misbahul Haq, Waqar Younis and Mohsin Khan. Among the candidates for the post of head coach are Misbahul Haq and Dean Jones. For bowling coach, Waqar Younis, Yasir Arafat and Jalaluddin are in the running while Faisal Iqbal and Mohammad Wasim applied for the post of batting coach. The sources said that Misbahul Haq and Waqar Younis are strong candidates after the interviews. Earlier, former Pakistan captain Misbah had resigned from his post in the cricket committee and submitted his application for the key post of head coach. The 45-year-old submitted his application for the post of the vacant head coach position. “You can expect strict competition for the position [of head coach], Misbah said. “I know many highly qualified people have applied for the post of head coach.” Earlier this month, the Pakistan Cricket Board had announced it had decided not to renew contracts of head coach Mickey Arthur, bowling coach Azhar Mahmood, batting coach Grant Flower and trainer Grant Luden. It is pertinent to mention here that Misbah has emerged as the leading candidate for the job even since he was made the camp commandant of the team’s ongoing training camp. He is also expected to land the chief selector’s role, but surprisingly he had waited until the last day to formally apply for the job. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had set August 26 as the deadline for the filing of paperwork for all the vacancies.
