LAHORE (92 News) – Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) disciplinary panel will hear the corruption charges case against batsman Umar Akmal at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. The panel will review the PCB Anti-Corruption Unit’s evidence against the cricketer for his involvement in suspicious activities. After reviewing the disciplinary panel notice of charge, the PCB will issue the verdict. Sources said that PCB likely to impose a ban from eight to 10 months on Umar Akmal. Earlier, 92 news traced the reason behind the suspension of Umer Akmal as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Anti-Corruption unit interrogated the Quetta Gladiators batsman on previous night. According to the sources, a suspicious person has also been questioned by the PCB Anti-Corruption unit and collected important evidence during the interrogation from the dubious person. The sources also said that after interrogation from the suspected person, Umer Akmal was suspended. On the basis of the evidence, Umer Akmal was immediately suspended. It was also reported that the Investigations are underway with Umer Akmal. Article 4.7.1 read as: Where either (a) the PCB decides to charge a Participant with an offence under this Anti-Corruption Code; or (b) the PCB considers that there are other exceptional circumstances relevant to a Participant (for example, where any relevant police authority has arrested and/or charged a Participant with an offence under any relevant criminal law in respect of facts or circumstances that may also constitute an offence under this Anti-Corruption Code), it, shall have the discretion, in circumstances where it considers that the integrity of the sport could otherwise be seriously undermined, to Provisionally Suspend the Participant pending the Anti-Corruption Tribunal‟s determination of whether he/she has committed an offence. Any decision to Provisionally Suspend the Participant will be communicated to the Participant in writing, with a copy sent at the same time to the ICC and, where applicable, the National Cricket Federation to which the Participant is affiliated.
