PDM rally: Maryam Nawaz asks workers to support her against current govt

BAHAWALPUR (92 News) - A rally of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), hosted by PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, is about to kick off in Bahawalpur.

Maryam Nawaz briefly addressed to the rally participants in Bahawalpur. She asked the workers to support her against the current government. "Let the people have to decide against the 'fake government'. Come with your daughter, your sister Maryam, to Seraiki Chowk, so Bahawalpur may also announce the end of this 'fake government'," she added.

As the procession made its way to the rally venue, Maryam shared another video, saying Bahawalpur has "erupted".

On the occasion, PML-N senior leader Rana Sanaullah said that the workers of Bahawalpur welcomed Maryam Nawaz in such a large number and gave their verdict. "This 'fake government' can no longer exist. Imran Niazi has to go now," he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that the violation of Corona SOPs have been seen during the rally. There were also clashes and fights among the workers reported.

Maryam, along with PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and PPP leader Yousuf Raza Gilani are expected to address the rally, at Seraiki Chowk. A venue was set up at the lawn of MPA Malik Zaheer's residence, where the PML-N gathered first.

Earlier, as she entered the city, tweeted a video of the vehicles that had lined up all around her. "If this is the beginning, I don't know what the build-up would look like," she wrote.

It is noteworthy here that the Bahawalpur administration rejected an application of the PML-N seeking permission to hold a public rally on January 3 following to the rise of of COVID-19 cases and the security concerns.

All the preparations for the rally have been completed as the stage has been made while the venue has also been decorated with flags and banners.

JUI-F chief and PDM head Fazalur Rehman, PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz and other members of opposition parties will participate in the rally.

The sources further said that former prime minister and PPP leader Yousuf Raza Gilani will also attend the rally. The rally will pass through Bandra Bridge, Model Town C Chowk, Fateh Chowk, Model Town B, and reach Toll Plaza Sutlej Bridge.

The PML-N’s local leadership of Bahawalpur had sought permission to hold a public meeting in the city on January 3 (Sunday). The deputy commissioner Bahawalpur in a letter written to PML-N leadership has maintained that there was credible information about a terrorist attack at the rally, adding that permission cannot be granted to PML-N for the Bahawalpur rally.

The administration further said it cannot allow a rally to be held in the city due to the spike in coronavirus infections in the country.

Earlier, the PDM has held rallies in Gujranwala, Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar, Multan, Lahore and Larkana.
