Peace in Afghanistan remains shared objective: FO

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - Pakistan has reiterated its hope that the United States will continue its engagement and efforts for the success of Afghan Peace Process.

Responding to media queries, Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said peace in Afghanistan remains a shared objective.

To a question about Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Dr Abdullah Abdullah's visit to the United States, he said it is their bilateral issue.

 On the other ahnd, Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that peace in Afghanistan is one of the priorities of regional countries. Speaking to the journalists, the minister mentioned that he held meetings with all the parties for the peace process. "The Afghan government and the peace committee do not seem on one platform," he added.  

Shah Mehmood Qureshi further said that 60 per cent of US troops have withdrawn from Afghanistan. He also maintained that Pakistan will continue to play a constructive role to make Afghan peace process successful.

The foreign minister said he presented Pakistan's position on the Afghan issue at the recently held Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Turkey. He said the world acknowledges Pakistan's role for peace and stability.

FM Qureshi said that Pakistan has effectively highlighted Kashmir dispute at the international fora. He said the Kashmiris have rejected the Indian illegal steps of 5th August 2019.
