ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has said that the people should not look towards the government for jobs. Addressing the second Deans International Conference of Engineering Institutions in Islamabad, the minister said that they were abolishing 400 departments. “People are talking about provision of 10 million jobs. We cannot provide jobs to anyone. The economy will sink if provide jobs to the people,” he said. "It was the mentality of the 70s that governments would provide jobs — now the private sector provides jobs." Later, Fawad Chaudhry made a U-turn and negated his statement, saying his statement was made a headline out of context. “The private sector, not the government, provides jobs. The government creates an environment having jobs. It doesn’t mean each person should find a government job,” he said. https://twitter.com/MalakAatifKhan/status/1184086576227323911?s=20 “I had stated that everyone cannot be provided with a government job. We will have to create job opportunities by improving the private sectors. There is need to work on new ideas,” he added. The PTI, in its manifesto, had said that it would create 10 million jobs over five years in key sectors – SME, housing, ICT, health, education, green economy and tourism. Earlier in January, Fawad Chaudhry had himself stated that 10 million new jobs would soon be created for the youth while 500,000 houses would be constructed for the poor as promised by the PTI government. Earlier this year, Minister for Planning and Development Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar had also said that the government would create 10m jobs in five years and enhance the sustainability of economic growth by building fundamentals and through structural reforms.
