People throng graveyards on Youm-e-Ashur

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – A large numbers of people visited graveyards during Youm-e-Ashur to pray for the departed soul of their loved ones. It is pertinent to mention here that as part of Islamic rituals, a large number people across the country visit to graveyards especially on Ashura to offer Fateha for the departed souls of their dear ones. Many people visited graveyards on Muharram for marking the martyrdom of the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) grandson Imam Hussain (RA), his family members and companions, provided another opportunity for people to visit the graves of their loved one who had passed away but left behind sweet memories to cherish. The people are being seen to clean and repair the old graves on the day of Youme-e-Ashur. With the arrival of Muharram, people starts to visit graveyards, repair the graves, along with grave diggers, masons and laborers for the annual maintenance of graves of their relatives and dear ones. The people also lay floral wreaths on their relatives’ graves and pray for their eternal peace. Flower sellers also setup exclusive stalls near all the graveyards as the people buy flowers, rose petals and water, to shower them on the graves of their loved ones. Although, city roads were deserted during the 9th and 10th of Muharram but a usual rush was witnessed at various small and large graveyards across the city. A large number of women and children also accompanied men to graveyards and were seen reciting Quranic verses for blessing of the departed souls. People were also seen asking the graveyard staff to clean and renovate the graves of their loved ones besides sprinkling water on them. 'Langar' (food) is also served by generous people and stalls of Sabeel (drinking water) are set up in and outside graveyards where spiritual congregations are also held on these occasions.
