Peshawar: 8 killed, 40 injured in blast near Hayatabad imambargah

PESHAWAR (Web Desk) – At least eight people have been killed and 40 others injured in twin explosions in Hayatabad's phase 5 area, 92 News reported. According to sources, the explosions took place outside an imambargah near passport office in Hayatabad. "We were offering prayers when the explosion occurred,"an eyewitness said. A heavy contingent of military personnel has arrived at the scene and cordoned off the blast site while the injured are being rushed to Hayatabad Medical Complex. Emergency has been declared at all the hospitals. Footage on 92 news also showed a gunman opening indiscriminate fire from a roof following the explosion. Smoke could be seen rising from several vehicles near the blast site. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has condemned the incident and sought report from the concerned authorities. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) strongly condemned the blast. Soon after the blast, Imran Khan and CM Khattak left for Hayatabad but security officials have barred them from visiting the blast site due to security reasons.
