Petitions challenging Sharif's PML-N presidency adjourned sine die

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has on Friday adjourned the hearing on petitions challenging the re-election of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif as the president of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for an indefinite period. A three-member bench of the ECP headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (r) Sardar Muhammad Raza heard the petitions filed by the Pakistani Awami Tehreek (PAT), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and other parties against Nawaz Sharif's PML-N presidency. During the proceedings, the PAT lawyer said that no party could be registered on anyone who had been disqualified by the apex court. The CEC remarked that the party is registered in the name of Pakistan Muslim League (PML) and Nawaz or Quad-e-Azam are just the groups. The CEC further adjourned the hearing for indefinite period as the same matter is already being heard by the Supreme Court.
