ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has on Wednesday postponed the hearing of Prime Minister disqualification case until the judgment of Supreme Court and dismissed the petitions for disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and Jahangir Tareen. Chief Election Commissioner heard the Prime Minister disqualification petitions and decides to suspend the hearing of the references until the judgment of SC in the Panama leaks case. The verdict was announced after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s lawyer Salman Butt requested the ECP to suspend the hearing, while the lawyers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) insisted the ECP to continue hearing the references. Talking to media outside the ECP building, Latif Khosa said that the ECP is the constitutional institution to hear these references, adding that the PPP has not filed case in the apex court. Meanwhile, PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the ECP can continue hearing the references, while Sheikh Rashid said that a new chapter in the history of the country will open tomorrow as all the eyes are on the Supreme Court.
