PHC orders ECP to decide PTI intra-party elections, election symbol case by Friday

PESHAWAR (92 News) – The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Thursday ordered the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to decide the PTI intra-party elections and election symbol case by Friday.

In the short verdict, the court ruled that it thought appropriate that the ECP should announce the verdict. Earlier, the court had reserved the verdict.

The PTI will not be able to get the election symbol of 'bat' if the intra-party elections were not accepted. The candidates will be considered independent if the PTI was not allotted the election symbol.

Talking to the media, PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan alleged that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was delaying the matters. "Only the PTI is being meted out discriminatory attitude. Were 32 questions asked from other parties as well?" he queried.

Justice Shakeel Ahmed asked the PTI chairman whether the ECP should not itself decide the complaints.

The PTI chairman replied that the complainant was not part of the PTI.
