KARACHI (92 News) – A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) aircraft with 99 people on board crashed one minute before landing near Jinnah International Airport Karachi on Thursday. According to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) sources, the national flag carrier’s flight No PK-8303 A-320 flying from Lahore to Karachi crashed in Model Colony near airport before landing. As a result, several houses were damaged. Fire fighters reached the spot and extinguished the fire. Several bodies and injured have been shifted to hospital. It stated that 99 passengers and 8 crew members in total were aboard the flight, 85 in economy class and six in the business class. The officials Captain Sajjad Gill, First Officer Usman-e-Azam and Farid Ahmed Chaudhry were onboard when the plane crashed. However, Abdul Qayyum Ashraf, Irfan Rafiq, Madiha Iram, Amna Irfan and Asma Shahzadi were among the crew members. Television footage shows plumes of smokes rising from the crash site as ambulances and rescue officials have arrived at the scene. It is pertinent to mention that the PIA flight was took off from Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport at 1:10pm and was scheduled to land in Karachi. Minister of Health & Population Welfare has declared emergency in all major hospitals of Karachi due to the plane crash, according to Meeran Yousuf, the media coordinator to the Sindh health minister.
