'Play 'Dulla Bhatti' will be staged in Alhamra tomorrow'

LAHORE (92 News) - The play namely 'Dulla Bhatti', the historical hero of Punjab, will be staged in Alhamra on October 7.

Addressing a press conference at Al Hamra on Friday, playwright and director Asma Ismail Butt and film star Durdana Rehman said that Dulla Bhatti was a historical hero of Punjab who stood against the Mughal rule.

"In this play, you will also watch the role of Mughal emperor Akbar and Punjabi Sufi poet Shah Hussain. Twenty-five actors are in the cast. The Punjab Arts Council should also promote such historical plays. I have written plays on different subjects. I went to India and wrote a play on Shah Hussain. I have also written a drama on 'Heer Ranjha' that will be staged in December," she added.

Asma Butt said that she had left the commercial play seventeen years ago. "I perform in art plays only. I am thankful to Punjab Culture Secretary Ali Nawaz Malik for inviting me to perform Dulla Bhatti at Alhamra on my proposal," she added. She stressed the need for promoting such plays so that the young generation can know about their heroes.

She said that the All Pakistan Chinese Overseas Youth Federation was supporting her. "This play will promote the Punjabi language. The Punjab government has put the commercial drama in the right direction. We hope that our stage will be better now."

Durdana Rehman said that she had always lauded Asma Butt's courage as she had always done something different for the promotion of art. "Dulla Bhatti is a historical play. This play is a lesson for the young generation as well," she added.
