Rigging allegations: PM approves establishment of Judicial Commission

ISLAMABAD (92 NEWS) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday approved the establishment of Judicial Commission (JC) to investigate rigging allegations in General Elections 2013. The decision was made after final round of negotiations for the JC proved fruitful between the government team led by Ishaq Dar and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Jahangir Tareen. Both parties signed the agreement after agreeing upon the terms to form the commission. According to excerpts of the agreement, Prime Minister will dissolve assemblies and announce new elections if allegations of rigging by PTI are proven in investigations by the JC. According to the accord, rigging investigation will be carried out through summary trial while JC will comprise of Chief Justice of Pakistan (commission head) and three judges of the Supreme Court. The JC will be independent to form a special investigation team for its assistance, according to the agreement. Earlier in March, the PM took parliamentary leaders of all political parties into confidence over negotiations with the PTI and the formation of the commission.
