ISLAMABAD (APP) - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as well as the armed forces of Pakistan, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and Services Chiefs paid homage to Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, on his 76th martyrdom anniversary, lauding his valour and sacrifice to safeguard the country.

The prime minister, in a statement, said that Captain Sarwar Shaheed embraced martyrdom in 1948 war by setting an example of courage and bravery.

He said that Capt Sarwar Shaheed preferred the protection of his motherland to his life and set an eternal example for the generations to come. The prime minister said that Captain Sarwar Shaheed’s martyrdom anniversary was a reminder for the entire nation of the unparalleled sacrifices of the martyrs.

He said the nation could never forget the sacrifices of the officers and men of Pakistan Army for safeguarding the country. “The entire nation, including me, is proud of the martyrs of Pakistan Army and their families. The entire nation stands by the officers and men of the Pakistan armed forces who are defending the country without caring about their own lives,” he added.

The first recipient of Nishan-e-Haider, Captain Muhammad Sarwar who embraced Shahadat in 1948 at Tilpatra (Azad Kashmir), showed unwavering fortitude and heroism in defence of the motherland, an Inter Services Public Relations ISPR news release said.

“The anniversary of Captain Muhammad Sarwar Shaheed martyrdom reminds us of the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces of Pakistan. Let us remember these brave sons of the soil who sacrificed their lives to protect our motherland,” it added.
