PM appoints Asim Munir as 17th COAS, Sahir Shamshad Mirza as CJCSC
ISLAMABAD (92 News) - Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif appointed Lt Gen Asim Munir as the 17th Chief of Army Staff and Lt Gen Sahir Shamshad as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).
In a tweet on Thursday, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb said that a summary to this effect has been sent to the President.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has sent the advice to President Dr Arif Alvi. The President House has received the summary. The President will accord the approval to the PM advice under Article 243. After the approval of President Dr Arif Alvi, a notification regarding appointment of the COAS and the CJCSC.
Keeping in view the possible delay in the approval of the summary regarding appointment of the COAS and the CJCSC, the government has frozen the retirement of General Asim Munir. Under the Army Act, General Asim Munir has been retained.
On the other hand, the federal cabinet has approved the appointments. Gen Asim Munir will remain the COAS even though the President sends back or withholds the summary.
