ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Prime Minister Imran Khan has congratulated IGP Shoaib Dastgir and the Punjab police for successfully going after hardened criminals in the province. In a tweet on Wednesday, he said that the action has sent a positive message of a new culture of zero tolerance in the Punjab police for criminals. On January 4, Prime Minister Imran Khan had announced to make Punjab police a modern force. Addressing the inaugural ceremony of a model police station in Mianwali, he said that soon the entire province will stand with the Punjab police. “We will issue funds for the police that have been distanced from the political pressure. We introduced merit,” he said. The prime minister said that ‘thana-kucthery’ (police stations and courts) was kept under control to harass and intimidate their opponents. “The model police station is a new thought. This is New Pakistan.” He hoped that model police stations will be an example for entire province. “We want to see Punjab police like the police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” he said. Imran Khan said that it is job of the police stations to facilitate people as complainants come to this facility for redressal of their issues. “The destiny of the country will change when the police will perform better.” He directed IGP Punjab Shoaib Dastgir to develop other police stations of the province on the same pattern. He assured government's full support to police department in carrying out reforms.
