ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Federal Finance Minister Shukat Tarin said that the prime minister had fixed the wheat price at Rs 1,950 per maund.

Addressing the National Assembly on Friday, he said that the government would have to pay the price from its pocket if the POL products were reduced.

He said that the petroleum levy had been fixed at Rs 2-2.50. "Owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, people are facing inflation in the United Kingdom and America," he said.

The minister said that the government will not give fish to the people, but teach them how to catch fish. "The lower class is in trouble. The middle man earns too much profit. An undue profit is being made due to unavailability of price control magistrates," he added.

He claimed that the economy is making progress and the FBR revenue had increased manifold.

State Minister for Information Furrukh Habib said that the government is trying to provide a relief to the masses. "The petrol price would have touched Rs 150 per litre had the government increased the levies tax. Ishaq Dar used to get 17 percent sales tax on petrol. We have reduced the sales tax," he added.

He said that it was responsibility of the provincial government to reduced inflation. "The government is constructing 10 new dams to reduce the electricity prices. The dams will also irrigate 13 million acres of land," he maintained.
