KAHUTA (92 News) – Prime Minister Imran Khan has vowed to plant one billion saplings by August next year. Addressing the Monsoon Tree-Plantation Campaign in Kahuta on Friday, he said that pollution had increased in Lahore by cutting trees. “Enhancing green areas is vital to protect future generations from pollution, global warming and to keep the environment clean. The government has set up nine national parks in the country which will not only protect forest cover, but also nurture wildlife and avoid global warming,” he added. He said that it has also been decided to reserve two hours in a week to create awareness among school children about importance of trees. “It is unfortunate that previous governments did not focus on preventing deforestation, which resulted into an increased level of pollution in Lahore and other cities of the country, which adversely affected health of the people,” he added. Imran Khan said that he had directed all chief secretaries of the provinces to prepare a master plan of all the cities to prevent unplanned expansion of urban areas to protect agricultural land. The prime minister also appealed to the people to celebrate Eid with simplicity.
