PM Imran Khan, Zalmay Khalilzad stress need for expediting Afghan peace process

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – US Special Envoy for Afghan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad called on Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday.

The exchange of views covered the prevailing situation in Afghanistan and the need for expediting the Afghan peace process.

PM Imran Khan added that as suggested by him at the recent Central Asia and South Asia Connectivity Conference in Tashkent, it was important for Afghanistan’s neighbours and regional countries to constructively work together for a lasting political settlement in Afghanistan.

He also held a meeting with Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and high-level military officials.

Khalilzad apprised the Pakistan authorities about the dialogues between the Afghan government and Taliban. He said that the Afghan groups had agreed to a ceasefire on Eidul Azha.

He also talked about the bilateral relations as well as durable peace in Afghanistan, regional progress and trade link.
