PM Kakar meets Chinese businessmen, firms express keen interest to invest in Pakistan

BEIJING (APP) - Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar on Thursday said Pakistan was offering Chinese companies and the world an opportunity for investment in mining and metallurgy sectors with high productivity yields.

The prime minister expressed these views as he met Chairman Minmentals Weng Zuliang and Chairman China Metallurgical Group Corporation Chen Jianuang in Beijing.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of Third Belt and Road Forum which was opened by President Xi Jinping on Wednesday. PM Kakar apprised the delegation about the Special Investment Facilitation Council set up for the promotion of foreign investment in the country. The heads of the Chinese companies expressed keen interest to invest in Pakistan.

During a meeting with a delegation of China Oil and Food Stuffs headed by President Luan Richeng, the prime minister said that the government was taking measures to uplift the agriculture sector as well as the processing and exports.

He said that with a view to promote the agriculture sector, the government has also included it in Special Investment Facilitation Council. He said Pakistan was not only striving to increase the agriculture yield but also the processing and enhance country’s agricultural exports. The delegation expressed keen interest to invest in Pakistan which the prime minister welcomed.

In a meeting with CEO of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) Wang Haihuai and Chairman of China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), Caretaker PM Anwaarul Haq Kakar said that the promotion of tourism and development of road and rail infrastructure were inevitable to make Pakistan a transitional economy.

The heads of the Chinese firms apprised the prime minister of the ongoing projects of CCCC and CRBC under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor. They expressed their keen interest to enhance their investment in the development of infrastructure, renewable energy, and other sectors. The prime minister appreciated the Chinese companies’ projects as well as their interest to enhance their investment.

Meanwhile, a renowned Chinese firm Amer International expressed its keen interest to invest in Pakistan’s copper and steel industry. The matter was discussed in a meeting between Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar and Chairman of Amer International Wang Wenyin here.

The prime minister welcomed the Chinese firm’s interest to invest in Pakistan and apprised the company head of the Special Investment Facilitation Council. He said under the SIFC, a facility of one-window operation has been introduced to attract investment in the mining and mineral sectors.
