PM Nawaz rejects PTI’s evidence submitted in SC

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has on Thursday submitted an application in the Supreme Court raising objection on the evidence submitted by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Panama leaks case. Salman Butt, the lawyer of the prime minister said that Nawaz Sharif has already rejected the allegations. The application stated that the documents submitted by PTI chairman Imran Khan are irrelevant, wrong and unacceptable and they have the right to raise objection. The larger five-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and comprising Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, Justice Amir Hani Muslim, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Ijazul Ahsan will conduct the hearing over Panama leaks. Previously, the apex court expressed dissatisfaction with the documental evidence of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Panama leaks case. CJP Anwar Zaheer Jamali remarked that the court would not do injustice with anyone. He said that it is not the work of the top court to hear corruption cases, adding that the wok will not complete in 20 year if they started investigation of 800 people. “The documents have been submitted and next phase is to form a commission,” the CJP added. The counsels of the Prime Minister and his children submitted before the court the documents in support of their concise statements furnished before the apex court in the last hearing. The court in its order said the copies of the documents should be exchanged with the parties for examination and review. Akram Sheikh, the counsel of Prime Minister's children presented before the court the supplementary concise statement of Maryam Nawaz. A petition filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has leveled corruption allegations at Sharif and his family and demanded an investigation. Before its adjournment till Thursday (today), the court also expressed willingness to hold hearings on a daily basis. The decision came seven months after the leaked documents from a Panamanian law firm appeared to show that three of Sharif’s children had companies in the British Virgin Islands through which they owned properties in London’s exclusive Hyde Park neighborhood. Following the Supreme Court announcement, Khan called off the protest and said he would hold a celebratory gathering instead at Islamabad’s main parade ground. “Go home and rest,” Khan told his supporters. “You have to return to Islamabad tomorrow to celebrate thanksgiving.”
