PM Nawaz Sharif calls on US secretary of State John Kerry, discusses bilateral relations

NEW YORK (92 News) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has called upon US Secretary of State John Kerry and discussed bilateral relations including Afghan peace process. The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister’s Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Pakistan's Permanent Representative in UN Maleeha Lodhi and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, while American Director for Pak-Afghan Sector was also present on the occasion. The one-on-one meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and US Secretary of State John Kerry continued for 24 minutes and both leaders discussed bilateral relations, matters of mutual interest, war against terrorism and international and regional matters. Secretary Kerry appreciated Pakistan's counter terrorism efforts and the success of Operation Zarb-e-Azb. He also expressed condolences over the terrorist attack on Badaber. Peace and reconciliation efforts in Afghanistan, as well as the security situation in the region were also discussed. A statement released by Pakistan's Mission to the United Nations said the Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to peaceful resolution of all outstanding issues with India through dialogue. Secretary Kerry said that President Obama looks forward to the visit of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to Washington in October.
