PM Nawaz stresses need to promote cooperation for regional peace

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has on Thursday stressed the need to promote cooperation for lasting peace in the region. Addressing the inaugural session of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation's (SAARC) Interior Ministers' Conference in Islamabad on Thursday, he said that all member states must work together for durable peace in the region and declared that Pakistan is committed to working with SAARC member states in fighting terrorism, corruption and organized crimes. Nawaz Sharif said that SAARC region is blessed with tremendous human and natural resources. So, SAARC can and should provide a platform to harness the regional potential for peace and prosperity of our people. The prime minister said that Pakistan has made remarkable gains against terrorism through operation Zarb-e-Azb and effective implementation of National Action Plan. On the occasion, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar said that the SAARC countries should continue war against drugs and for durable peace. He expressed the confidence that the regional organization will continue to move forward with the same spirit in order to achieve the goal of peace and stability in the region. Nisar pointed out that the South Asian region is facing a number of challenges and threats like militancy, terrorism, social injustice, corruption and organized crimes. “South Asian region shares similar and common borders and they collectively need to create such an environment that is free from violence,” he added.
