PM Nawaz urges religious scholars to help counter extremism

LAHORE (92 News) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Islam is the religion of peace and tolerance and it is regrettable that certain elements distorted this very image by spreading anarchy and bloodshed. He pointed out that due to the efforts and sacrifices of the national leadership, religious scholars, armed forces and police the hideouts of the terrorists have almost been eliminated. He was addressing the National Seerat Conference in Lahore on Monday. The prime minister said that the way forward to fight this menace lies in the life and teachings of holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Prime Minister Nawaz said that it is the responsibility of the religious scholars to reestablish the link between Islam and peace by taking guidance from the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). Nawaz Sharif said respect of humanity and human life are an inevitable part of Islamic teachings and Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in fact laid the foundation of a society based on high moral values. Being the heirs of the last Prophet, it is the responsibility of Muslims to revive these very values and norms in our daily life and conduct, he said. Nawaz Sharif said that Quaid-Azam and Allama Muhammad Iqbal had envisioned Pakistan as a modern Islamic state. The time warrants Ulema to lead the state the society to achieve that long cherished dream. The conference was attended by scholars belonging to different religions.
