October 13, 2019
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has reached in Iran on a day-long official visit of Iran. Prime Minister’s visit aims to promote peace and security in the region. Foreign Minister of Iran Javad Zarif received PM Imran Khan at the airport. Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Special Assistant to PM on Overseas Pakistanis Sayed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari are accompanying the prime minister. It is pertinent to mention here that PM's visit aims to promote peace and security in the region. During the visit, PM Khan will have meetings with the Iranian leadership, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Sayed Ali Khamenei and President Dr Hassan Rouhani. Besides issues relating to peace and security in the Gulf, bilateral matters and important regional developments will be discussed. This will be the Prime Minister’s second visit to Iran this year. The prime minister also had a bilateral meeting with the Iranian president on the sidelines of 74th UNGA Session in New York in September 2019. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said PM Imran Khan’s visit to Iran carries much significance as the premier will attempt to remove misunderstandings between the brotherly countries to avoid war. Talking to 92 News, the FM said war between the two countries would not only harm the Muslim Ummah but also damage security environment of the region. “We hope to prefer peace and remove misconceptions through diplomacy,” Qureshi maintained. He said the problem had several aspects while different countries had different stakes, adding global efforts to resolve the problem also remained unsuccessful, but it didn’t mean that efforts be discontinued for peace. Pakistan is the only country in the world that has deep relations with both states, Qureshi said and added that one is our neighbour while the other has strategic relations. “Both the countries trust Pakistan while the United States is too relying on us.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yM4lNmT_K0s The visit comes after Imran Khan last month described a request by US President Donald Trump, asking the Pakistani leader to help defuse tensions with Iran. Washington had blamed Tehran for an attack on the world’s biggest crude oil processing facility in Saudi Arabia.
