ISLAMABAD (92 News) - There is no shortage of electricity and the power plants are shut due to lack of fuel and technical faults.

This was disclosed in a report presented to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during a meeting on the Energy Sector on Thursday. According to the report, 27 power plants across the country are closed due to shortage of fuel and technical faults. PM Shehbaz Sharif expressed his indignation at the report.

He directed to remove the technical faults immediately. He said that people are facing the worst loadshedding. "Negligence will not be tolerated and immediate steps should be taken to remove shortcomings," he directed.

The reports says that former government had not tried to remove technical faults, timely repair and damaged parts. According to sources, a majority of shortcomings are of administrative nature and some of them are related to the policy decisions.

The closed power plants can produce 5,751 megawatts. Nine power plants are closed due to non-payment of bills. The 18 closed power plants can produce 3,605 megawatts.
